Could anyone recommend a supplement for three ponies on poor grazing they are getting hay once a day, something I can chuck on the hay as I don’t want to hard feed, they have all had laminitis before, and aren’t fat but I don’t want them to gain any more weight,…
Buying the right supplement seems to be a minefield!
Baileys lo-cal balancer
The only supplement they need is vitamin e. If they don't have grass, why would you want to supplement a pony or horse? so they can get fatter?
I like topspec antilam or topspec light although any light balancer would be fine. I know people say that some have more sugar than they like but with a balancer they eat so little it will have minimal if any effect x
Salt, magnesium and calcium to offset the high potassium in fast growing grass. Maybe salt in water buckets and sprinkle the others over a small amount of dampened hay?
Why does everyone use balancers nowadays? I use vitamin and mineral powder. I guess that could be sprinkled onto hay, but you couldn't guarantee how much each got.
I think because we are more aware of the shortfall of vits and minerals in our grass. Grass is such a complicated plant! It's stressed when it's too hot, it's stressed when it's too cold, too wet, too dry, etc etc 🤣🤣
I have Thunderbrook Daily Essentials but it's a pain to give it in a bucket and it puffs out everywhere so probably wastes a fair amount. I am looking at Equimins Advance Pellets I think next because it will be easier to feed by hand, no stirring and extra chaff etc that isn't really necessary.
I've just come across agrobs senoirmineral and also a normal mineral mix. Quite expensive but seems to have everything including vit e, calcium and phosphorous balancer etc. May give it a go.
